BACKDATED TO BOXING DAY
[Gideon]

I need your help. Talia -- she's broken, she's got religion and it's not exactly like her at all to go and catch that, except she knows she's broken. Apparently a Mormon did it. It doesn't look normal, Gideon, it looks like magic only Market would go, wouldn't it? She said his name was Young, Elder Young. Isn't this what the Library is for, making sure people don't go breaking other people?

[Liam]

[Extremely short: the blunt letters are small and cramped, the kind of inelegant handwriting better suited to the cautious character of one who closely examines things. It is Sully-of-the-Gang and not Sully-himself and whilst Ephraim Sullivan does not think to draw the man back from what is his unspoken repetition and pattern no more than he could tides and the moon -- what Talia and Liam have is un-discussed and difficult, one of the crevasses in the crumbling between what was once Gang and now is long gone and incomprehensible to one who came after -- but yet important.]

When you get back, could you let me know?

[Cass]

She's not permanently broken. I don't think.

[Haven]

How do you go about taking things off other people?

[Public]

[An extremely small sketch -- all blacks and greys and sober monochrome, this time of a bus station and people moving swiftly enough to be faint blurs beneath the rain. It is architectural rather than focused on faces, on hands, the usual style tucked away into what is almost a blueprint made dimensional. It is not Sully and yet it is, all pencil and charcoal and faint borders of ink to keep it all contained]

[It comes the day after the day after Christmas, when Liam still stinks of his own idiot regrets, but has at least required a modicum of dignity in the form of sobriety. His hand is clear and stark across the page as it ever is, as if nothing's changed, nothing's happened -- and that Sully knows the pattern, has recognized and reacted to it, well. That makes Liam shift a tad uncomfortably, but not more.]

What's it, then?

[Unexpected; the letters gone sharp and quick but the whole is not remarked upon. Sully is artist's eyes in back of pub-room finding all eventualities out but rarely anything said]

Tali.

I gather the knowing didn't change anything. How'd she act?

[Acidic]

How would you imagine, if you realised something was extremely wrong with you? She was upset.

[Nothing to bite back at; maybe it's never been the Sullivans, but Liam's been here before, has seen similar enough, and family's family. He blinks mildly and nothing more.] Easy. I need information, that's all. When'd you see her last? What made the connection for her?

Christmas. That was the point. She was talking about church. We're Jewish.

I know. [Devon had dressed like a mad king and nearly set the flat aflame in attempt at constructing a menorah. Talia had laughed, and as Liam recalled, Hanukkah had been spent drunkenly sweeping up ashes well into Christmas.] Did she get there on her own? Did you get through to her?

We'll get it sorted, Sully. I promise.

There's a bloody Mormon wandering around that did it.

That's what she can remember. That was different, that started it.

A what? One of those 'have you accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ' knocking at the door types?

All right. Okay, then. Does the Mormon have a name, or was it a one-off?

You mean, the way Talia's been for the last while?

'Elder' Young. Apparently.

[Inadvertent emulation of Liam's timing from Emily. She's hardly left Haven since solstice -- there's been a grocery run to feed house full of hungry magicians, and a Boxing Day trip out to each of her parents (the less said, the better), but beyond that she's an elusive ghost until the 27th. Haven's looked after, and the world outside is largely disregarded for a week. But then there's Sully's hand, Sully's sketch -- lovely but uncharacteristic, more Wagner than Sullivan -- and didn't he need to be checked in on anyway, to make sure the bills were paid and the lights stayed on?]

'Things'? Physical or metaphysical?

[He doesn't look for Em Andley at Christmas; the world is caught up in its own self-admiration for baubles and presents and seeming hope of snow and Haven is that spire picked out against the sky, reminder that the place will be celebrating -- if it and those within it can manage well enough. Instead, only aware that Em is familiar face not quite frequent of late, Sully's writing does its best to emulate dash and verve but not quite, too to-the-point to be anything other than the other-man more suited to blueprints and back rooms.]

Metaphysical. Magical. Not Market, I don't think.

Who? Talia? Typically we take a look and go from there. Bring in a consultant, sometimes. Do you think she'd be up for a visit? [Not that Em's the dab hand which Gryff is -- less experience, to say the very least -- but she knows the bones of it all, knows what to look for.] To us or her, either/or.

Tali. Possibly. I don't know. Probably better if you come to her, she's not really [...the trailing of doubt, of his own sister's ability gone shattered-awkward, worked against denizens of Haven] Cass knows it, too.

Just a sketch.

[It's nothing compared to Sully's artistry, but there's a down-on-its-luck smileyface scrawled in thanks. One eye is longer than the other and the slant of the smile gives the thing a leer, but it's happy all the same.]

[Relief makes the words slide closer together but as they're sharper than they should be, all the impact is something akin to Sully's usual sprawl of handwriting]

She told me that it started when a Mormon called 'Elder Young' told her about the Christ shite. That's when it began, when she remembers talking and thinking about it.

Did he leave anything with her? Any pamphlets, medallions, anything about the flat? Does she remember if he walked about on his own at all, or touched her?

Fuck it. I ought to come by, see if I can sniff anything out that shouldn't be there. And I know who to ask about this man. We'll find him, Sully, believe me.
